Lesson 8 · When the trade goes against you
v.1.9.21 · Liquidity, Smart Hedge and Inputs for this lesson
The existing lesson below describes normal operation. While Smart Hedge owns the round, legacy exits are paused. Monitor total Profit and finish with STOP. Read the updated Hedge section first.
Separate a normal pullback from a change that invalidates the original plan. When structure changes, try to end the round with a small profit or small loss to lock risk; the EA F1 workflow uses STOP to close all.
1 · A bounce is not proof the plan is safe

A single upward candle inside a downtrend may only be a temporary bounce. Compare several swings, the entry reason and your risk boundary.
If the planned risk condition is already met, you do not need to wait for more chart confirmation. Hoping for price to return does not reduce the exposure.
2 · Read the basket and the remaining funds
Basket means the whole set of positions in the round. Lot/exposure measures size, not profit. Equity includes the result of open positions; inspect Margin and Free Margin as well.
Fictional Buy results −8, −7 and −5 USD sum to −20 USD before any other costs not already included. Looking only at the first order hides the rest of the loss. Check account units and avoid counting costs twice.
3 · Structure changes → STOP closes all
Do not wait for a large loss before considering risk. If the original structure has changed and your exit condition is met, press STOP to close all intended positions, then verify that they actually closed.
Fictional case A: the round is +3 USD as structure changes; the plan can end it with STOP rather than insist on a larger profit. Case B: the round is −2 USD; the plan can still end it with STOP without waiting for break-even.
These small amounts illustrate the approach; they are not fixed settings, guaranteed loss limits or promised execution results. Prices and costs can change before closure.
4 · Waiting or adding lot does not erase risk

Doubling lot to recover a loss changes the amount at risk without correcting the original reason for entry. If price continues against you, the loss can increase.
Do not count unrealised recovery as money already saved. Return to the plan, pause and reassess instead of opening repeated rounds from emotion.
5 · Verify every close
Check the Trade tab for remaining intended positions and the History tab for executed results. STOP’s close-all function still requires an execution check: a remaining position means the round has not finished completely.
If there are errors or a lost connection, investigate before starting another round. Record the actual final net, not just the value visible before pressing STOP.
6 · Write the plan before the round
Record the instrument and UTC time, what supports the direction, total lot, the funds you can risk and the condition that invalidates the original structure.
Write: ‘When my planned exit condition occurs, I will STOP to close all, verify Trade / History, then pause and record the reason.’ A written risk budget alone does not create an automatic stop or guarantee a maximum loss.
XAUUSD · M1 / M5 · EA F1 v1.9.8
7 · Case study: green M1 within a downward M5 structure and a heavy loss
The account owner supplied XAUUSD M1 and M5 charts and reported that the adverse move blew up the account. The owner had seen green M1 while the orange boundaries had been sloping down, with M5 also downward and a yellow candle at the watched descending line. This case teaches timeframe checks and risk limits; it is not a direction-picking rule based on hindsight.
What is known in this case
- Before entry: the user reports that M1 was green while the orange boundaries had been descending for a while. The entry-time colour is the user’s account of events.
- The M5 screenshot shows continued decline after the circled yellow-candle area. The yellow candle did not stop the decline.
- The later M1 screenshot shows a blue START button, Regime: Sideway and Today P/L −162.88 (−80.30%). It does not confirm a green button at entry.
- Profit 0.00 at the screenshot moment does not erase the displayed Today P/L loss. Lot 0.01 on the panel does not establish the basket’s total lot.

Lessons from the adverse move
- M1 and M5 can show different pictures. Fast M1 movement may be only a local rebound. In this case, read M5 as context before using M1 for timing. If you cannot explain the disagreement, choose Wait.
- Yellow is a risk–reward assessment point, not reversal confirmation. It can occur on a descending line while price keeps making lower lows. Several yellow candles are still insufficient on their own.
- Mean reversion is not a guarantee. Grid positions and aggregate losses can increase during an adverse move. A risk limit may be reached before a rebound. The bounce at the end of the chart does not prove the earlier round would have survived.
- When the entry reason no longer holds, follow the risk plan: stop adding exposure, assess reduction or closure and verify actual execution. Do not wait solely in the hope of a return to the mean.
A beginner’s sequence for a similar situation
- Before entry: read several M5 highs and lows, then compare M1. Green M1 with clearly falling M5 is a reason for further checks, not an immediate Buy from the button or yellow candle. Do not automatically switch to Sell either.
- Define the plan before starting: write what invalidates the entry reason, the maximum combined exposure and the acceptable whole-round loss under the account’s plan. Check time, news and available funds.
- While holding: monitor total lot, Equity and Free Margin. If exposure exceeds the plan or structure conflicts with the original reason, stop adding and reduce or close according to the plan. Check Trade / History for actual execution.
- Afterwards: retain entry–exit times, direction, all orders and sizes, pre-event Equity/Margin and order history. Review on Demo by pausing before the decline, rather than judging an entry with future prices already visible.
Try this: M1 is green, but M5 is clearly descending and a yellow candle appears. Should you rush into Buy and wait for a bounce?
Show answer and reasoning
Wait and check structure and risk first. Green M1 and yellow do not confirm that the decline has ended. If positions are already open, manage them under their plan; choosing Wait for a new round is not a reason to leave existing exposure unmanaged.
Remember: M1 colour does not replace M5 structure • Yellow does not guarantee a bounce • Limit risk before relying on a return to the mean.
Practise before opening the answer
1 · One green bounce appears in a downtrend while you hold Buy. Is it safe now?
Show answer and reasoning
Not proven. Compare multiple swings and the plan; act if the risk condition is reached.
2 · The Buy positions show −8, −7 and −5 USD. Is checking the first enough?
Show answer and reasoning
No. The total is −20 USD before other costs not included, and it still moves until execution.
3 · Which button ends the round under this approach when structure changes?
Show answer and reasoning
STOP closes all intended positions. Verify that all closes executed; do not hold part of the round as a separate partial-close method.
4 · The round is still slightly positive. Must you keep holding for a bigger profit?
Show answer and reasoning
No. Follow the STOP exit plan to lock risk. Actual final profit can differ from the displayed amount.
5 · STOP was pressed but a position remains in Trade. Has closure finished?
Show answer and reasoning
No. Check errors, connection and remaining positions before a new round.
6 · The round is slightly negative when structure changes. Must you wait until it is positive?
Show answer and reasoning
No. A small-loss exit with STOP can be the planned response. Do not increase risk merely to reach break-even.
7 · Does doubling lot after a loss fix the original plan?
Show answer and reasoning
No. It increases exposure; pause and follow the planned risk response.
Your Demo homework
- On Demo, record every position and the net before closure.
- Use STOP according to the prewritten plan; check Trade and History afterwards.
- Write the reason, UTC timestamp and actual result, then identify one improvement for the next practice round.

EA F1 + Radar v.1.9.21 · Read the screen and new features
Read three things: trend gives direction · Liquidity marks an event to investigate · Smart Hedge manages a running basket when confirmed direction conflicts with existing positions. Gold uses M1 as its main trend; Bitcoin uses M5. Other timeframe trends provide context. A Buy Liquidity label does not replace the main trend.

What is Smart Hedge? Existing positions remain open
Hedging means holding Buy and Sell positions in the same instrument simultaneously. Opening a Sell against an existing Buy does not close that Buy or erase its loss. Smart Hedge requires an MT5 Hedging account; Netting accounts work differently.
With Smart Hedge = true and a round running, the EA enters its Hedge branch after a confirmed reversal, a confirmed continuation against existing positions, or a transition out of Sideway against positions still open. A Liquidity message or a yellow candle alone does not trigger Hedge.
The Hedge branch pauses the original Grid additions and legacy entry/exit paths. Initial coverage targets the total EA position volume present when Hedge starts, possibly split to meet broker limits. Later additions require a fresh yellow signal and sufficient price progress. Margin and position limits still apply.
Once Hedge takes control, legacy exits—including Dynamic TP, Initial Stop and the money Take Profit—are bypassed. Do not expect those settings to close the basket automatically. Positive total Profit brings a take-profit advisory; Sideway or a state needing reset brings a reset advisory. These messages do not close trades. Use STOP to end the round and close all EA positions, then verify completion. There is no automatic restart.
Hedge does not guarantee a loss limit. Monitor gross lots, Spread / Commission / Swap and Margin. Existing losses remain, and additional positions can increase risk. Do not raise lots to recover a loss.
MetaTrader 5 · Hedging / NettingIn this screenshot, Buy Liquidity M5 and M15 appear while M1 and M5 still show Down and START is red. Buy Liquidity does not prove an uptrend reversal. Check structure, closed candles, news and your risk plan together.
Try before revealing the answer
Hedge is active and total Profit is positive. Wait for the old TP?
Show answer
Do not rely on the legacy TP in the Hedge branch. Review the exit opportunity, use STOP to finish, and verify all EA positions are closed.
